Checking Items Off Your Bucket List
aka. Things to do before you die
A Bucket List is a list of things you want to do/see/achieve before you kick the bucket (aka. die). Despite many people having one, it’s often not a priority until it’s too late. The movie “Bucket List” tells the inspiring fictional story of two older men who decide to create, then scratch off, each item on their shared list after both being diagnosed with terminal cancer.
Don’t wait for a life threatening illness to start checking off the items from your list.
How to Make Your List and Follow Through
Think about what you want to do/see/achieve. What are some things you regret not doing that still lingers in your mind to this day?
Put your list in order of:
- Priority: what you really want to do to what you’d like to do.
- What you think will be the least amount of time commitment to the most.
- What you think will be the least amount of cost commitment to the most.
Review and choose the list order that works best for you.
Choose one goal.
Write down your plan of action using the SMARTER goal system as a guide: Set the Goal, Make a Map, Adapt, Resources, Time Management, Enjoy the Journey, Remember.
Create daily habits that move you toward this goal each day. 1% improvement each day equals desired results in time. (For an excellent book on how to develop good habits, read "Atomic Habits" by James Clear.
I won’t tell you what to put on your bucket list, but I do encourage you to speak to a financial consultant to help you work out the cost commitments and the best plans to achieve them.
Don't wait for tomorrow what you can do today. Do what fulfills you and brings joy and closure into your life.
For suggestions on what to put on your bucket list, I recommend reading the book "The 5 Top Regrets of the Dying" by former palliative nurse Bronnie Ware.
Have a successful day!
